Crop Lookout Bulletins

Crop Lookout received 18 reports of crop diseases and pests across eight states on August 6–7. Southern corn rust accounted for the largest share of reports, with eight detections across Tennessee, Minnesota, Mississippi, Iowa, and Kentucky. Tar spot followed with six reports from Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

Crop Lookout received reports of several corn diseases and pests from across the central Corn Belt this week. Tar spot of corn and southern corn rust were the most frequently reported issues, with new detections spanning Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, and Minnesota. Corn leafhopper was also reported from Missouri and Nebraska, reflecting continued monitoring of this important insect pest.

Southern corn rust accounted for nearly all Crop Lookout submissions this week, with reports spanning Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, and Missouri. Kansas recorded the highest number of reports, while additional detections across multiple states highlight the continued presence of southern corn rust in corn-growing regions.

Crop Lookout received new reports of tar spot of corn and southern corn rust this week from Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, and Kentucky. Tar spot accounted for the majority of submissions, with multiple reports originating from DeKalb County, Illinois, along with additional detections in Indiana and Virginia.

Tar Spot Leads a Diverse Week of Crop Lookout Reports

Crop Lookout received reports of six different crop diseases and pests across six states this week. Tar spot of corn accounted for more than half of all submissions, with new reports from Indiana, Michigan, and Virginia. Three of those reports originated from Saginaw County, Michigan, over a four-day period, reflecting continued observations of tar spot in the area.

Additional reports included southern corn rust in Missouri, red crown rot of soybean in Missouri, Curvularia leaf spot in Iowa, and a corn leafhopper sighting in Kansas.
