Peanut Mottle Virus of Soybean
Published: 01/25/2022
Peanut mottle virus is an aphid-transmitted virus caused by potyvirus (PeMoV) that occurs in the southern United States. Because symptoms do not distinguish from other problems, lab testing is required to confirm the presence of the virus.
The disease first appears as small yellow spots that grow and form yellow blotches intermixed with green patches of leaf. Also, patterns of rings or lines also may form on leaves, veins may yellow, leaves may pucker or curl at the margins, and older leaves may have a mottle or mosaic pattern.
Infected plants infected may be stunted and produce mottled seed resulting in less yield and reduced seed quality.
