Soybean Vein Necrosis Virus

Issue: Pathogen

Scouted in Montgomery County, NC on July 30th, 2024

Soybean Vein Necrosis Virus

Details:

Soybeans were scouted at the R2 growth stage and necrotic lesions and vein discoloration were observed on leaves in random areas across the field. This issue was confirmed by an NC State Extension Specialist to be Soybean Vein Necrosis Virus (SVNV). Symptoms associated with SVNV can look similar to other soybean diseases such as brown spot, cercospora leaf blight, and even herbicide injury. Symptoms can include randomly distributed irregular yellow spots ranging in size, necrotic lesions, vein discoloration, and yellowing of the underside of leaves.

Conclusion:

Currently, there are no economically feasible remedial measures for SVNV.
