Spider Mites

Issue: Insects, Mites, and Slugs

Spider Mites

Details:

Spider mites were scouted at the economic threshold on R4 (full pod) soybeans in early July. Spider mites are able to pierce individual plant cells to consume the inner contents. The result is death of the plant cell, often appearing as green, white, or brown stipples. The hot and dry conditions at this site were favorable for infestation.

Conclusion:

Continue scouting and follow general integrated pest management practices. Refer to local recommendations for management practices. You can learn more about Spider Mites in North Carolina in this resource from NC State Extension.

Important Note: Spider mites are not insects, so it is important to check any insecticide labels before use. Also read and follow the label.
