Blackened Soybean Plants

Details:

Soybean plants at the R8 (full maturity) growth stage appeared blackened after a prolonged period of drought followed by a severe rainfall event due to Hurricane Helene. This is likely due to a saprophytic fungi and was observed across 50-75% of the site. Soybeans planted early (end of March through mid-April) turned black while those planted later (late-April and beyond) remained a normal color.

Conclusion:

If possible, try to harvest dry soybeans in a timely fashion. This can help reduce potential issues with wet conditions, such as disease, germination, and other harvest losses.
