Root Knot Nematode

Details:

Root knot nematode (RKN) was observed in R5 (beginning seed) growth stage soybeans. Aboveground symptoms of RKN may include patches of yellow or stunted plants that in severe, late-season cases may die. Below ground symptoms can include root galls, which is a diagnostic symptom for this nematode as they are the only species to cause root galling.

Conclusion:

Avoid growing RKN susceptible crops and varieties more than two consecutive years. A wide host range for RKN makes crop rotation difficult, but it can help reduce populations. The specific species of RKN is important for crop rotation decisions, as their host range varies. Fall soil samples are recommended every 3-5 years for monitoring.
