Bean Binoculars Incident

Southern Root Knot Nematode

Issue: Pathogen

Scouted in Sumter County, SC on August 15th, 2024

Southern Root Knot Nematode

Details:

Southern Root Knot Nematodes were scouted in susceptible maturity group 4 soybeans at the R6 (full seed) growth stage. Symptoms associated with root-knot nematodes in soybeans may include non-uniform stunting, wilting, chlorotic patches, and galling found on the roots.

Conclusion:

Work to manage the spread and increase in populations. Root knot nematodes have a diverse host range, which makes rotating to non-host crops difficult, but it can help decrease populations. Selecting a resistant variety is the most cost effective preventative measure.
