Issue: Abiotic Factor

Scouted in Story County, IA on July 29th, 2024

Hail Damage

Details:

A strong storm producing high winds and hail resulted in damaged soybeans in Story County, Iowa. The soybeans had reached the beginning of the R3 (beginning pod) growth stage. The hail resulted in roughly 30-50% of plants being broken below the apical meristem. All plants at this location received 20-30% defoliation, but no plants were completely killed.

Conclusion:

Balance post-hail management based on a reduced yield level against the cost of the post hail management. Contact your insurance agent(s) to get fields adjusted if necessary.
